New year, New hopes, New impressions

Did some tweaking of the blog outlook. Hope its more easy on the eyes.

Look out for the next post. Will update the following item.

1. Summary of 2006
2. 2007 Resolutions
3. Highlights of 2007
4. Things to do in 2007

Had brunch with my church friends. Coincidentally, met Mathew. It has been like 6-7 years since i have met him. He has changed a lot in appearance. The gathering was weird without Raphael. Kind of quiet, as he is usually the talkative one our cliche Do hope he is well in Canada.

Plans for tonight is dinner along with KTV session.

Today is the end of 2006. Lets remember the lessons from the past and look forward to a better tomorrow.

OSS CO Orientation preperations

As the year comes to a closure soon, the students at OSS CO needed help for the secondary one Orientation next week.

It makes my blood boil with enthusiasm to see the youths hard at work in their CCA, i had to help out.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The students preparing the banner.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The design was done by one of the sec 1 student (next year being sec 2). Although the design is fairly simple, it is a great task for a secondary 1 to come up with a design for a banner.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The painters at work... (where is Chris!?)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yeah... Most of the painters...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Banana with friends. 耍帅!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
80% of the work done.

Little Yellow wanted to rush down from his work to help with the banner. But i told him that it was almost finished. So his efforts was greatly appreciated!

Doing some finishing touches.

The crew taking their position...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Viola! The Orientation banner. A splendid well done!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Thats me... Kindna blur shot.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We went down to Robertson Quay to have a light dinner to reward ourselves for the good work done.

Chris with a cool look....

It was a satisfying experience to work with the students on a banner as it is HIGH time to have a revival of the culture in OSS CO. Since i was in Army, the Orchestra does not seem to be having any culture to make the orchestra any more fun.

No camps, no games, just practice and practice. Who wants such an Orchestra? Time to put the fun back into Orchestra.

Hanging out with young people, makes me feel young. Hope that this feeling lasts long.

Trivia: Next year, i will be 10 years older than the secondary 1. That makes me 10 years in Chinese Orchestra!

Christmas movie - "The Holiday"

The Holiday

Nice show. I like the portrayal of the two female leads.

Cameron Diaz as the strong-career woman who is confused about love as she has never committed herself to someone entirely before.

Kate Winslet as an intelligent woman who is always in love with the wrong person.

I like the movie that is able to develop the rich character through the film. There is even a nice spin on Jude's character! It maybe a spoiler, but hey, i could have been like the last few people in Singapore to watch the show, since the movie was opened many weeks ago.

The elements on Kate's role and Cameron's may not be so well-balanced, and it does not really focus on how Kate and Jack follow in love (exactly) in the show. They just like to ogle at each other, thats all. So its kind of hard to see how they get along.

The show ends off with a nice happy ending, and i went home with a happy heart.

Kid: "Quike"

What does kids learn their stuff anyway!?!?!!

Book review

Read finished this book:
98 Reasons for Being
by Clare Dudman

Not bad. Very detailed. Tells the story of how insanity in the 1890s were treated. Some doctors (in the book) called that it was the "illness of the soul" or that it was just a clogging of the blood in the head. The story follows how a patient, Hannah, and the resident doctor will confide in each other and will soon embark in an exploratory exchange of their life.

I noted this book due to two factors:
1. The flaming woman on the cover book.
2. Insanity.

The story ends with a fitting conclusion that reminds us, "What is insanity? Are the sane more insane, or insane more sane?"

The flaming character is not Hannah.

The other book i read was,
The Officer's Ward
by Marc Dugain

Tells the story of the 1st World War and how a young engineer Lieutenant gets his face badly injured but left his body whole. Was it luck or a misfortune? The Lieutenant will have to carry on his life with courage beyond the war into his entire life. A very touching story that could be quite true about wars. Beyond the warring period, the scars of the war will forever be with the soldiers.

The book is easy to read, and quite brief. Read it in a week.

Over the weekends...

Its Monday!

And the last day for all my lessons for the year. No more classes for me. Will miss classroom environment for some time.

Just a short write up on what i did over the weekends.

Saturday - Tuition. Vomit blood. Walked to Bugis from Farrer Park. Browsed the flea market at Bugis area. Met up with Brudder Junz. Laze around. Met Ru Hong. Had 来来牛肉面 then slacked @ Icon Building. I found the most beautiful place to slack under the skies!

Sunday - Had breakfast outing at the usual market. Chinese Orchestra practice at CC. Met up with GAHA members. It rained the whole bloody day, so it ruined my whole mood. To top it up, my Singapore Marathon '06 bag's strap broke along with its zipper. Free stuff are never durable~

And while the whole is messed up, i met Shuling at Tiong Bahru Plaza. It really brightens up my day with such little surprises. Maybe i get satisfied abit too easily.

We had a good chat before she meets her boyfriend, and it turns out that she doesn't know that i have a blog! To think that i visited hers and Sandra's blog so often~

Thats all for what happened over the weekends.

Today at school, interesting enough, it rained the whole day! From the time i stepped into school, till i stepped out of school. Thats from 9am to 6pm?

How weird is that? Along the way walking home, i can't help but recall what my sociology lecturer said before,

"Singapore has seasons... Wet, Hot and Very Hot!"

It truly uniquely Singapore!

Flags of our Fathers

Watched Flags of Our Fathers with Mr Wang. We did made a pact to watch this movie when we watched the previous movie, "The Prestige".

"A single shot can end the War"

The movie's style have the soldiers' warring period in Iwo Jima being told while the soldiers are back in reality. Then the story goes further by being told by the son of the soldier. Hence the name, "Sons of our fathers".

The overall battle scenes are quite cool, especially with the panoramic scene of the naval ships approaching Iwo Jima. That was a really awesome shot!

The story was told in a very tedious effort trying to string all of them together by having pieces of the story placed before and after, and vice-versa, it was mind blowing to piece them together in the end.

The difficult part of the story was also trying to absorb the theme of the story. I mean, it already has a good story in saying that all soldiers are heroes. But why add so many themes like 'lost kinship' and 'self-reflection'?

Overall, its a good movie to watch. They should have screened the trailer for the Letters from Iwo Jima since Clint Eastwood (aka The director) shot these 2 movies in one whole stretch in an effort to show a story with 2 sides.

Look forward to more movie outings!

I need to get more tuition clients to improve my income!

Remember that Muppets?

Check this out!

Its damn cute....

Remember this?

Rowlf and Fozzie bear are back!

I also found this really catchy tune from Muppets.

I wanna run and swim and run and swim...

Swam 30 laps within 48 minutes, i can't seem to do it under 45 minutes!

Its my first swim after the 42km. Felt really rejuvenated from the swim. Forgot my shower kit, so i had to rinse myself with water and rush home to bathe. I guess the signs of aging are appearing!

My goggles seemed to have been disfigured on the surface, so can't see very well in it in water. I only swim with 25% clear vision with the goggles on. Is it safe!?

The tuition boy's Mom gave me fruits to eat after tuition session. The purpose? So that i can help the boy install Chinese programs on to the computer. Apparently, the boy does not know how to make the computer work!

Christmas gathering with the 'CS Lao Jiao-s' are undergoing some brain-storming sessions. Need to have some ideas to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone. Don't want to make it a "makan-slack-sleep" session. Its very unpleasant. Ideas!?

Note: Sar can't attend the X'mas gathering! She is only coming back to S'pore on 31 Dec! She will be missed.

Last few lessons for the year + Pics for Kevin's Bday

The year is coming to the end. And today marks the end of 2 lessons for the year.

SO FAST!?!

oh man... sibeh sianz

Update:

i got some pics from yannie on the birthday outing last Thursday, 7 Dec.

Its been like ages since the Cha Dian gang actually met up. So it was really good that Kevin got most of us out! Good job Kevin.

The occasion to celebrate was Kevin's birthday. And we decided to meet up for dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. However, when we reached the restaurant, the place was not suitable for our group, and the management crew just ignored us! The situation left us stranded at the entrance.

*tsk* *tsk* *tsk*

What lousy customer service! Not GEMS for Fisherman Wharf.

So we made our way to Clarke Quay to look for some really good customer service and food! And we chose Amalfi the Italian Pizza Place for some pizza!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Pizza time at Clarke Quay!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We wasted no time to dig on the food.

Food Food!

It was really nice sitting along the banks of Singapore River having dinner. The mood was right, relaxing and cooling. For a moment, i almost thought that it wasn't Singapore. As the Singapore nights are usually added with a tinge of sticky warm feeling.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Birthday Boy

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yannie. Her pics mah. Have to acknowledgement her. Thanks for the pictures!

The 3 amigos behind her are the regular singers of the restaurant. They dished out quite a few songs for the diners at the restaurant. So apart from relaxing by the banks, we also got our musical entertainment!

After dinner, we made our way to Chocolate Factory at Robertson Quay. The cafe sells drinks, chocolates and scuffles all freshly made.

There were tons of pictures taken on the cakes, but apparently Yannie only took a few. Maybe the rest were being munched while she was snapping the photos!?

We shared a total of 5 cakes. We had, Chocolate pie tart, Flour-less Chocolate cake, Black Forest Cake, Timarisu and i just can't remember the last cake!

*argh*

I'll be damn!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Flour-less cake. As the name suggests, no flour added. So what does it use?

HUmmm... Eggs and chocolate!?

*Good to eat when warm*

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The cake (that i forgot the name).

But hey, the cakes are all good. So whats the use of remembering the name? Just order everything off the shelf!

The shop has no cake menu, as the chef doesn't want to have any fixed dishes. He will dish out whatever he can, and the customer will just have to order off the shelf whatever he makes.

Trust me. Its good. The Chocolate Pie tart is the shop's recommended cake. So die die must eat. :)

One last look at the cake.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
hummm.. cake....

Chocolateeee good!

Happy Birthday Kevin!

Monday blues

Lessons were quite *dry*.

I was looking forward to helping out at the "Adjam" activity organized by ODAC. Its an activity where the 4 local universities in little Red Dot namely, NUS, NTU, SMU and SIM have their ODAC (Out Door Adventure Club) to organize a 2d1n social activity for the Junior Colleges' ODAC to interact and make friends.

Cool activity hor!

Desmond was really nice to give me a ride to Labrador Park. Along the way, we picked up Billy at the market where we had dinner.

Surprise Surprise!

After hanging out at the place, it turns out that the game station didn't need any helpers!

*argh*

Wasted my enthusiasm.

But at least i got to meet some people that were quite nice to chat with.

Note: I realized that Sociology is getting more and more exciting as i read on. This is crazy~ but i really find it really fun.

What kind of Tarot card am I !?

Now i am officially a game show!

"Wheel of Fortune!"

You are The Wheel of Fortune

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

An urge to drive + Marathon Pic 1 and 2

I feel like running. Running to an open space, scream my head out and make time stop for that moment. Unfortunately, if i do that, i would worry about finding an open space (unless i'm on soccer field) or worry that my shouts would disturb other people.

Being confined in my home, really makes me wonder if its meant to make me feel comfortable in my coffin?

Since both are small spaced in nature?

I need to focus on my current needs.

And thats money and grades.

Don't need to worry so much about things in life yet. They'll fall in place nicely...

The marathon pictures are out at here. Results here.

Picture of me dashing towards the ending point after walking/runnning/limping. I guess the sight of the end point really drove me to go into 'hyper-drive' mode.

Check out that gap of space between my body and the ground! Oh man.. Must be running damn fast...

Another picture of me crossing the finishing line. Looking really cock here as the fellow before was decided to slow down upon crossing the finish line. I had no time to slow down after my 'hyper mode'. So had to "siam" the fellow before me, and hence that "dulan" look.

Wenz looks very nice. How come i turn out to be like THAT!?

Haiz...

Post Marathon '06 - Legs are getting better

Woke up this morning with most the aching from my left ankle gone. The only aching from my body left are the shoulders and the thighs.

I think by tomorrow, my aches will leave me. And maybe some swimming sessions for me.

I'm such a sucker for pain.

IBM test is coming, along with the Mock exams in February/March. That leaves me 2 months to study all my text. Time to pull up my socks and get down to studying...

After marathon...

My legs are really sore. And i doubt i can last long standing on one leg.

So please don't go in front of me and challenge me to a one-leg standing pillow fight....

I spotted this challenge in SGrunners. Sounds interesting. Can my legs recover before Dec 9!?

Thanks to MrBrown.

Warning: Do not play the music too loud. Not suitable to be played infront of children.

Check out the dance moves! I want groove like him in Zouk~ The girl at the back seems to be really 'high' worh~

Damn. I still don't know what the song title or what the song means.

Book review "Just Work"

Posting this blog post before i head for classes. Still got some minutes before heading to classroom.

Its been ages since i have read finished a book. Most of the time, i have been just reading like 3 quarters of a book and just chucking it away.

Reading is a good habit. And reading finish a book is a better habit. :)

Just Work by Russel Muirhead

Interesting name for a book. The author goes through a various scope of discipline to look at how can we search for a good job. And what makes a bad job. Why we have this scene where we think that our job suxxx big time, while there are tons of other people applying for it.

Chapters of the book goes through Marx's idea on building utopia through work, John Stuart Mill's idea on industrialization and various economist's idea on work and the pruporse of work. Is it for that money? or is it for the purpose of surviving?

A very interesting read if you think that work is 'just work'.

42.195km, finished

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Finisher's tee

When i reached the Padang at 0545, courtesy of my Dad giving me the ride there, i was electrified at the sight. Everywhere is filled with people in running attire! Fortunately, i wore my orange attire. That'll make me stand out from the blue sea of people.

I met up with Chee Peng, Kim Hock and Mao Jun... It was a long time since we last met, and the place that we meet had to be on a marathon!?

Off the race starts at 0600hrs, an with a steady pace with my peps, i made good progress to run till my 24km...

The knees are hurting like SIAOZ!

Well... What to do? I did said that i neber condition my body to 3 quarters of the length of the marathon.

So, off it goes with the struggling at East Coast Park (Start of 21km stretch). Along the route, there was plentiful of water points + 100 plus pit stops for the runners. It was great to have a cold drink at 100 plus when the body is really thirsting for a drop of water. And there were banana stations, to distribute *duh* bananas. Deep heat stations to provide some runners that extra 'kick' to get rid of that irritation leg cramp. The best was there were supporters all through out the run to get the runners motivated!

Thank you supporters. The best supporting group is before the start of the East Coast Park. There were 4 rich 'tai tai' sipping white wine and having picnic along the running route with a makeshift table and chairs shouting,

"Hey sexy legs... Move those legs!" or

"Hey cutie boy, keep going!"

It was plain hilarious looking at them shout out such lame lines.

Then with my limping, walking and 'jogging' (not considered jogging as its TOO SLOW!), i made my way to the 40km mark. Which was a beautiful running route from under the bridge of Nicoll Highway to the Esplanade. Its a great ending to the finale.

And nonetheless, the finale was the great Padang. Giving all the stuff that is left in me, i made my final sprint to the finishing line along the Padang.

OH YEAH!

5 hours 40 minutes~

20 mins below my expected timing of 6 hours. Excellent piece of work!

And with many battle scars to tell the tale of great struggle, i made a tabulation on my 'scars'.

- Thigh abrasion
- Armpit abrasion
- Both knees aching
- Left ankle badly hurt
and the BEST of ALL
- right nipple abrasion

WTF!? Being in the army, i never got nipple abrasion. And it hurts. Ouch. And i got sick of bananas cause i took around 6 of them throughout the race.

I also got some more souvenirs...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Finisher's medal. Because everyone is winner in a marathon race.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And my race tag. One more to add to my race tag of fame.

And of course, the Dri-Fit Adidas Finisher Tee-shirt you have seen above.

I feel great. Just great. Finally finished the race of the year and one more item off my 2006 resolutions! Whee.....

Last words before the race

I don't know what the world will be like after the 42.195km.

But i'm going to find out later.

Here i come 42.195!

ARGH!

Singapore Marathon '06 Preperations + Thoughts

Tomorrow is THE RACE of the year. The big 42.195km.

I estimate that i'll take 6 hours to complete it. Alot of things can happen within 6 hours. But i choose to accomplish only one thing. And that is to run a marathon.

My very first marathon.

I don't know what will happen, whether will i go blind, hairless or become captured by aliens....

Whatever the consequences, there will be a lot of pain. I anticipate the pain. Because pain tells us that the body is still functioning.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My gears. Minus the shoes and watch.

I had not have any actual carbo-loading. Neither did i purchase any power-gel, or did any 3 quarters preparation of the run to condition the body.

Heck with all these. I will run with pure MINDPOWER.

Dig it!?

I still haven't figured out what to write for the Adidas Reason Bib. (Adidas is having this campaign where we hang their Adidas Run for Reason Bib. There is simply an empty bib where we can write the reason we are running the marathon. And we get to hang this bib behind our running top.)

While hanging out with Bert, i got some great ideas.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Whoa.. This one confirmed will run fast.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
For the most simple reason in life.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
A variation of the above bib reason, except with Singapore flavor.

Actually, these bibs can help you make friends too u know...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Whoa.. this one sure get people to talk to you de...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Or you can get people to smile.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Showing people that you are smart.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I think this one is nice lor.... Might consider using this.

And the final last pair, that is suitable for you and a friend.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Run for your life!

Run for his life! :)

Getting it????

True beauty can last throughout the ages.

:)

Isn't better if thats the same for love?

I think Audrey Hepburn is chio bu lor. Don't you agree?

Wenz's prep for her marathon seems to be on the way. I'm still struggling with my hydration problem. And i haven't got any power-gel, or any other power 'stuff' with me.

I plan to do this with only sheer mind power.

At most, i'll collapse with body ache all over. What else can happen!?

My Adidas bib is still empty, as i haven't got any idea on what to write. Suggestions!?

I've calculated that before i exactly hit a quarter of a century, i'll get my 1st degree.

*sheez*

Bo liao.
