I'm tired from the camp. Fortunately, i managed to catch some shut-eye sessions when the juniors were training today after lunch.
The scenerio: The month of October is going to be the time when my Alma Mater's (Outram Secondary School) Chinese Orchestra is to have a joint-concert with a Hong Kong's Chinese Orchestra troupe.
The plan: Have a intensive training camp for the Outram Chinese Orchestra so that they can have a better team spirit to face the upcoming challenges in the joint concert.
When the plan was brought before me (under heavy influence of Weng See & Peishan), i was really hesitant to do this. But as the saying goes,
"To do nothing is the greatest evil."
Yeah.. So the story reverts back to 2 weeks ago where i intensively met up with the Orchestra's students that were in the management to come up with the grand scheme.
Eventually it turned out to be a 2D1N of training camp for the students. It was a 180 degrees different from doing a CSCC camp.
How different? Lots of it. I doubt i want to list them down.
Fortunately, i was blessed with capable helpers. And one of them came in the form of Jordan. His participation in SP's EEE club definately trained him to become the ultimate 'camping' personnel.
With him by my side, it was a breeze and confidence was a definate boost. Apart from working with him closely for this camp, i also got to understand the Orchestra's teacher in-charge better and vice versa. The teacher in-charge happens to be a character researcher too. Spending time with her would end up having your character diagnosised. (scary but true!)
Apart from working hard to make the camp's activity as engaging and meaningful as possible, i tried to get the other graduates to participate in the activities. Fortunately, the graduates are very willing to play along and engage with the students. I tried my best to do some 'goal-setting' with the students, but they gave me the very "HUh!?" kind of look when i mentioned the word,
"
Objective of camp"
Am i speaking an alien language to them!?
Despite my hopes that my speaking skills had improved, maybe it didn't really improved at all. Otherwise, how could secondary students not understand me!?
Disappointment put aside, i was impressed that my temper was not as bad as before. Trust me, if i had such intolerant nonsense from the students in the past, i would have exploded. (Ask the graduates ah!)
There were quite alot of good review of the camp at the end of it and even from the teacher in-charge. Maybe it was due to the long absence of 'camping' sessions for the orchestra (got 8 years meh!? as quoted from the official orchestra blog site, was it that long!?).
During the camp, i picked the movie "Sing Girls" for the orchestra to learn something about teamwork.

Swing Girls
Cute girls + Teamwork + Good music + Real funny storyline = Great movie
Hope the students had liked it. :)
The best form of reward for me is that the orchestra does well in the concert and that the management plans to do another camp at the end of this year for the upcoming SYF next year.
For the facilitators of the camp, thanks for helping out in all matters. It was really great to work with you all. Hope to see you all more often for the orchestra's events.
